Our First Acoustic Show = Success!
Aug 2011 29

On Thursday, August 25th, we teamed up with Red Mango’s Decatur location to host our FIRST-EVER acoustic showcase. It was, in one word, a SUCCESS.

Acoustic tunes with froyo couldn’t have been a better match. After all, other Kollaboration networks have been doing it for years to bridge the gap between annual shows. So when Red Mango sponsored our main event this past March, we thought it was about time we had our own acoustic showcase to not only foster the sponsor-recipient relationship, but to showcase the incredible acoustic talent we’ve come across over the past few years. Not to mention,  it’s just something fun to do for the summer.

Around 30-40 attended the event, where live music was offered and a raffle drawing was in place to give audience members a chance to win prizes. These included gift cards from Target, Starbuck’s, Figo Pasta, Doc Chey’s and Red Mango, all starting at $10 and up.

First to hit the stage were The Fu, a guitar-strumming duo of brothers who some may recognize from Kollaboration ATL 3. Well-known throughout the community for their tasteful covers and soothing harmonies, The Fu played their own version of tunes by Mike Posner, John Mayer, and more.

Next up was Joy Tolentino and Oscar Mendez from Kollaboration ATL 4, our most recent event. Joy’s solid voice and Oscar’s steady strumming (and shoeless feet) brought out a mix of covers from Ellie Goulding, ’80s R&B, and an original piece.

Last to perform was Johnny Le & Sam Cho from Johnny Le & the Crew. Don’t bother calling them that though; they officially made an announcement before beginning that their new band name is to be Long Story Short. Congrats on the new name, guys!

We’d like to thank Red Mango for being gracious hosts and allowing us to use their patio for the event. If you’re reading this and haven’t tried their new Mango flavor, make sure to stop by and try some – it’s delish! Also thanks to all the performers put on a great show and kicked off our first acoustic event with a bang  (Rize Up was advertised to play, but were unable to attend at the last minute.)

A special thanks to our associate director, Jocelyn Shieh, who will be leaving us in a few weeks for a new life in Boston. This was her last Kollaboration ATL event and she will be missed by all. You rock, Joco!

Lastly, the show would not have been anything without the continued support from Kollaboration fans. Thank you for making our first acoustic show a great one!
