Zooming in On: Joy Tolentino & Oscar Mendez

Standing at a diminutive height in a lacy black dress, Filipino singer Joy Tolentino and guitarist Oscar Mendez kicked off the second half of the show with a smooth acoustic number featuring “The Only Exception” by Paramore. As the lights glowed and Oscar strummed his guitar steadily, the audience fell silent as Joy’s voice resonated through the entire venue.

Formed by a like-minded musical consciousness, Joy and Oscar came from different parts of the country (she from San Francisco, he of Dallas) to Atlanta and nurtured their individual talents through any available outlet. With a wide range of inspirations between them, Joy and Oscar presented an understated, yet powerful musical display at this year’s Kollaboration event.
